Timely Tip from Calloway’s Nursery for June Gardeners
Enjoy Summer Color
Spring flowers become but a memory as summer heats up! However, our desire for a colorful landscape can still be achieved. From annuals to perennials to shrubs to trees, color is found in blooms, foliage and even in the plumes of ornamental grasses.
The distinct patterns of Caladium leaves or textured foliage of Coleus adds interest to shady gardens. The dazzling Daylily or drought-tolerant Lantana provides splashes of blooms for full sun. Crape Myrtles are sending forth sprays of blossoms and the Esperanza displays clusters of bellshaped flowers. Color abounds even in the heat of summer!
Remember to use Calloway's premium soils and mixes at the time of planting and water well with a Root Stimulator mixture. Also, add two to three inches of mulch to conserve moisture, help keep the soil cooler and prevent weeds from growing.
Attend our Free Saturday clinics, especially June 6th which features the summer blooming Crape Myrtle. For a complete listing of clinics, visit www.mytexasgarden.com.

Glendover Park Yark of the Month
Introducing Calloway's GOOD NEIGHBOR Program
This year the beautification committee has been accepted by Calloway's to participate in the Yard of the Month program. By participating we will enjoy the following benefits.
- Monthly garden tips
- Special Savings coupons
- Sponsored YOM Gift Certificate for our monthly winner
- YOM winner will be identified by a Calloway's YOM sign
The committee is very excited about this program. The winner of the YOM will be sent a $50 Gift Card directly from Calloway's. In addition to this gift card, we as the committee will award our community prize of $50. Who wouldn't mind this special recognition for hard work and effort to spruce up your front yard? YOM begins April and every month through October, How does the YOM get chosen? They get chosen by “you” the community. We begin every month asking for your nominations.
The rules are simple: The yard must be well maintained and neatly groomed. They can be planted with seasonal color or perhaps landscaped with curb appeal. The committee and the board get the list of nominations and the voting begins. So, Let the shovels begin! We are looking forward to awarding you with the YOM prize.

Calloway's Tip for April Gardeners
Calloway’s Nursery offers many organic products to help you develop a “green” environment. We also offer traditional solutions but for the gardener who is exploring the “greener” side here are a few ideas.
It all begins with the soil, so have your soil tested the first of each year FREE at any of our stores. Organic matter is important to the soil composition. It helps with drainage and helps increase the soil microbe population. Expanded shale is also used to break up hard, compacted clay soils. Calloway’s Organic Fertilizer contains seven food-grade meals and can be applied to your lawn and other plantings. Top dress your flowerbeds and containers with our organic mulches. They not only break down slowly putting organic material back into the soil but, they also prevent weeds, conserve moisture and cool the soil during the heat of the summer.
Other organic insecticides and fungicides are Neem Oil, Diatomaceous Earth, Dipel Dust and Insecticidal Soaps. These are products which are safe to use around pets and children. There are also beneficial insects available such as Ladybugs, Lacewings and Beneficial Nematodes! These guys will attack the pests and take care of them “naturally”.
Join us on April 18th, for our Earth Day clinic and learn more about our “natural choices”. Or, go to http://www.calloways.com/clinics.pdf for more information on clinics.
