McGruff House® Program
A McGruff House is a temporary haven for children who find themselves in frightening or dangerous situations. A McGruff House in the neighborhood shows someone is looking out for the children. Started in 1982 in Utah, the McGruff House Program is now in 44 states.
What do McGruff House participants do?
McGruff House participants agree to help children as they go to and from school and play in the neighborhood by:
- Telephoning appropriate authorities for help.
- Reassuring or assisting children who are lost or frightened.
- Assisting children who have medical emergencies by contacting appropriate professions.
- Assisting children who fear becoming victims of personal crime by summoning qualified help.
- Assisting children who have been victimized by crime by calling appropriate authorities.
- Reporting crime and suspicious activities to law enforcement officials, providing as much information as possible.
- Abiding by the restrictions and requirements of the McGruff House Network.
A McGruff House Participant does not provide first aid (except in life-threatening situations); administer medications; supervise the neighborhood; enforce laws; provide food, beverages, or toilet facilities; provide transportation; or guarantee safety.
Participation in the McGruff House Program is available to Glendover Park residents. The Allen Police Department will conduct certain background checks on volunteers to ensure the safety of the children. Participants must also agree to follow the program's rules and procedures. For more information, please contact the Glendover Park McGruff House Coordinator, safetywatch@glendoverparkhoa.org. Glendover Park's goal is to have at least one McGruff Safe House on every block. We want Glendover to be a safe place for children!

Crime Prevention Tips from Glendover Park Residents
Put the Non-Emergency Police number in your home phone speed dial and your cell phone, so that you don’t have to hunt for the number when an incident arises.
Keep your garage door closed at all times.
Safety/Crimewatch stickers are available for placement in your front windows. Email safetywatch@glendoverpark.org
There is a link on the Glendover Park HOA Website to the Texas Sex Offenders web site.
Take your garage door opener out of your car if parking anywhere other than your garage.
Don’t leave valuables or personal information in your car, (insurance cards, wallets, checkbooks, etc) CD’s, cell phones, etc.
Test your smoke detectors at least twice a year when the time changes.
Install motion detector type of lights above or around garage to deter thieves, just make sure they don’t shine into your neighbor’s windows.
Lock the door that goes into the house from the garage.
Lock your overhead garage door if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time.
Shred papers that have important personal information on them.
Make sure you get your credit card back after a purchase and that it does not belong to someone else.
Instead of signing your credit card, put “ask for identification” where the signature goes, that way they don’t know how you sign your credit card.
Banks are now suggesting not to put your full name on your checks, just initials and no phone number; this way if your checks are stolen people won’t know how you sign your checks.
